Dear Farm RPG developers,
My name is Pâmera. I am 25 years old, Brazilian, and blind.
Even though I grew up in a big city, I have always had a deep love for the countryside. I spent much of my childhood on my grandparents’ farm, surrounded by animals and nature. Some of my happiest memories are riding a horse with my father for the first time and collecting eggs from the chicken coop with my grandfather.
I also remember my grandmother playing a farm game on the computer. I had a little bit of vision at the time, and I would get very close to the screen trying to see if I could play too. Unfortunately, I never could. Since then, my dream has been to find a farm game that I could truly play.
After my grandparents passed away, I could no longer visit the farm. Those memories became even more precious to me. When I discovered Farm RPG and learned it had some VoiceOver compatibility, my heart filled with joy. I thought I had finally found the farm game I had always dreamed of.
However, when I installed the game, I faced several accessibility barriers. Swipe navigation with VoiceOver often becomes silent, as if elements were invisible. In some screens the focus gets lost, and many interface elements are read only as “link” or “button” without proper labels. This makes navigation very difficult.
Another challenge is language. As a Brazilian player, it is very hard to play using a screen reader entirely in English. I tried my best to adapt to both the accessibility limitations and the language barrier, but eventually the experience became too exhausting and I had to uninstall the app, which truly saddened me.
Farm RPG is a wonderful and creative game. That is exactly why I am writing to you. Improving accessibility support for screen readers and adding a Portuguese language option would make an enormous difference for players like me.
Being able to play Farm RPG with proper accessibility and in my native language would mean much more than just playing a game. For me, it would feel like traveling back to my childhood and reconnecting with some of the happiest memories of my life.
