maybe this is by design but I was sad to be unable to buy the igloo mailbox for 1000 snowballs when I actually *have* 1000 snowballs but as a new player my inventory (762) cant yet hold them all and maybe that's meant as an incentive to expand your inventory but... maybe it could be different :)
