The current design of Events is severely discriminating players who wish to not (or can't) buy the moneypacks. This year, the unlock item is not even tradeable so the only way how to play the event when it actually starts, is to either pay money, or trade for box with other players, however the box goes for about 350 gold or 10-15$.

Last year the unlock item was tradeable, so the design was made more restrictive likely on purpose.

The only way to play the event is to be glued to screen for 14 consecutive days and then after the event is halfway gone, one will get the item from chores. This design is never seen in any other game, where players are just told to pay or not participate and likely will just discourage most of new players from continuing to play the game alltogether.

It would be okay to keep the event item in chores, however it needs to be gettable before the event starts, so everyone has a chance to participate. This either means to give the event item in previous month's chores, or make new tier of chores that would not be tied to a specific month, and they would just track X days before target date (so in case of 4th July, it would look at 15th june to 14th july, if we still aim at ~14days, in which case the regular players can get it on event release, and newly joined players can get it few days later if needed).

There also has been actual Event Key item, that got likely forgotten....

So, please reiterate on your event implementation. Event is to gather people around and play together, so they all should have a chance to do so.
